2012 Pflugerville Christmas Parade!
Hang tight - we are planning this event!

Members of the Pack gathered together and decorated a trailer into a float, using lights, foam board, and other Christmas decorations donated or loaned for the occasion.  Tiger Scouts rode on the float, with room for tired scouts, and Akelas, during the 1.5 mile parade route.

       Trailer Decoration

We will decorate the float for the parade at Alejandra Lopez’s house starting at 3 pm on Saturday. Alejandra is also acting as the Point of Contact for the event, so if you questions about getting to her house, or you show up and everyone has left, please contact her. Thanks Alejandra!

Address: 17820 Clare Morris Lane, 78660

A big thank you to Mike Gates who has volunteered a long trailer for the parade. Please help your son respect it as if it were his own. He also has some 2x8 sheets of wood that he is donating to paint as signs with “Pack 409” on them. If you’d like to help paint, he’s going to be doing that Saturday morning, and you may contact him at m1gates1@yahoo.com for more information.

Greg Jewett will provide the batteries, lights, and 120V inverter to hook up the lights in the trailer.   We also have some 2x8 sheets of wood that we will be painting with the pack number on it. Feel free to bring anything you’d like to decorate the float with.

At approximately 5 pm the float will leave for the parade lineup, which is on Pfennig Lane somewhere near the Parkcrest Middle School football field (lineup map). We are in slot 34, with Pack 406 in front of us, and Pack 685 behind us. It appears that all of the horses in the parade are behind us as well. HOORAH! There will be no parking at the parade lineup. If you need a place to park, we have permission to use Brookhollow Elementary, Parkcrest Middle School, and the field across the street from Brookhollow.

The parade starts at 5:30 (as it starts to get dark). It proceeds down Railroad to Main Street, turns west for a few blocks, and ends at 4th street (Map).

What to bring: A non perishable item. A cup for hot chocolate. A snack, if you won’t be able to make it to dinner. Candy, if you would like to throw candy. (You can only throw candy if you are walking.) And a merry shouting/singing voice. (we still need a choral leader!)

What to wear: your cub scout Class A uniform, denim short/pants (I imagine pants, watch the weather), belt, neckerchief, and holiday hat (if you have one). While never a problem in the past, I have to say that no one is allowed to dress as Santa, as Santa is in the final float of the parade.

All adults are welcome to walk in the parade as well. Tigers are required to have an adult with them. If your son is going to be on the trailer, it would be nice if you could be with him to remind him that riding in a trailer requires correct behavior. At another local parade in Pflugerville a child was killed when she fell from her float because she was reaching off of the trailer for a rope. We don't want any accidents.

There is no time to dawdle at 4th street. Once we hit the end of the parade, we are shuffled out of the way pretty fast to make room for the rest of the parade coming behind us. Post parade the float will return to Brookhollow Elementary via Wilbarger Street to Railroad, where the float to be disassembled and then boys returned to parents. We need help undecorating as well as decorating. Please plan on doing one or the other if you don’t have time to do both.

Pflugerville Christmas Parade
Saturday, 12/8/2012, 5pm - 9pm

PACK 409 will be in slots: 43!

It's dark by the time the parade starts, so getting there by 5pm will make it easier for you to find the slots and get organized. If you have vehicles dropping off people or equipment, please have them gone by 5pm, otherwise it's gets too crazy with people trying to line up while other vehicles are pulling in and out all over the place.

Line-up instructions

The parade route is 1.3 miles long, starting at the intersection of Pfennig Lane and Railroad Avenue at Park Crest Middle School (PCMS). It proceeds south on Railroad Avenue to downtown Pflugerville. You will be assigned one or more line-up slots along Pfennig Lane running west of Railroad Ave. Slot 1 is at the start of the parade route. Police/Fire/EMS vehicles will lead the parade followed by a band consisting of members from all three Pflugerville ISD high schools.

NO PARKING will be allowed in the line-up area or along Pfennig Lane, except for vehicles participating in the parade. You may drop off parade participants at the line-up area, but all extra vehicles and support vehicles must be removed from the area by 5pm.

Parking will be available at PCMS, at St Elizabeth Church (behind PCMS), and at Brookhollow Elementary (BES), and in the field across Railroad Ave from BES. (BES is the approximate midpoint of the parade route). If you have a large trailer, park it in the field behind St Elizabeth church (see detailed line-up map). After dropping off your group or equipment, turn left (north) on Railroad Ave and take the first driveway on the left. Beware that it is a very steep turn.

There is a 6pm Mass at St. Elizabeth that uses most of the parking lot. Please be considerate.

Parade Precautions
Floats, trailers, and trucks used for carrying parade participants must operate in a safe manner. If children are riding on any part of the parade vehicle, there must be adult supervision with the children. The adults must be in the same location as the children (e.g. on the trailer or in the truck bed, not just in the cab).

Adult supervision is absolutely required.

Pflugerville PD Rules and Regulations

  • Do not move any traffic cones in the line-up area or along the parade route.
  • All floats must be lighted.
  • All vehicles must have their parking lights on during the parade.
  • Only people walking alongside the float are allowed to throw candy.
